This month, I am proud to announce that the Research Triangle PowerShell user group is taking a short break from presenting code to focus on career development on October 2nd. We’ve brought in three industry veterans to discuss how PowerShell and automation have played a role in their careers. It will be an interactive discussion that gives attendees a unique opportunity to ask these pros your questions about career development and learning!
So why do this?
I have been in the Information Technology a long time and I see one trend repeatedly when I talk to others: getting started is hard. This applies to not just one person or group of people. Anyone who is young and just getting started in IT often struggles to get a footing. Individuals who are changing careers or learning a new skill can also struggle to learn a new topic. There are many other situations where individuals are having problems trying to learn skills or make a spot for themselves in an industry that is rapidly changing.
Many times, what I notice is that individuals just need some solid advice. That can be as simple as a recommendation on a good resource for learning or maybe more in-depth such as getting advice from of a trusted individual on larger career decisions. Everyone has a time in their career where they could benefit by talking with someone who has already dealt with the same situation you might be facing.
We put this talk together so that ANYONE could take advantage of the opportunity to speak with three successful individuals with different backgrounds and three different paths to success. Our panelists this month are Mr Fernando Tomlinson (US Dept of Defense), Ms Julie Andreacola (Microsoft) and Mr Michael Bender (Pluralsight). These individuals have all generously donated their time to come tell us a little about their careers, the paths they traveled, what made them successful and what didn’t. We’ll have plenty of time for the audience to ask questions and gain advice from these industry pros! Make sure you attend and ask those questions you have been hoping to get an answer on!
